What Are Radiator Valves Used For?

Whether you’re looking to elevate the look of a period-inspired cast iron radiator or add a classic touch to your home, brass radiator valves are a great way to get the most out of your central heating system. Timeless and stylish, brass is a unique colour that can blend modern technology in with period-style pieces. Our brass radiator valves are available in multiple finishes, so you can find the perfect match for your home and budget.
What Are Radiator Valves Used For?
When it comes to your home’s heating, a set of thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs) allows you to customise the temperature of individual rooms. This means that instead of your entire house being heated to the same level, you can warm up your bedroom to the perfect temperature for snuggling under a cosy duvet, and the kitchen to an ideal temperature for cooking hot meals. This can save a significant amount of energy, so you can reduce your heating bills and help the environment at the same time.
Thermostatic radiator valves are a simple addition to your current central heating system that allows you to fine-tune the heat output of each room. These valves are fitted to your existing radiators and can be adjusted by turning the handle on the top. By adjusting the position of the valve, you can control how much hot water is emitted from the radiator, so you can set it to exactly how warm you want the room to be.
As well as allowing you to control the heat in each room, a thermostatic valve also helps you to save energy by detecting when the radiator is not being used. When the valve detects that the room is not being used, it will shut off the flow of hot water from the boiler and stop the radiator from getting any hotter, meaning you’re not wasting energy warming up an empty space.
Manual valves are a more traditional type of radiator valve and don’t have any built-in thermostatic functionality. Instead, they operate by using a knob or lever to manually open and close the valve, which controls the flow of hot water or steam into your radiator. Manual valves are generally cheaper than TRVs and can be more versatile as they allow you to tailor each room’s temperature to its own needs, rather than heating the whole house to one optimum temperature.
Angled valves are suitable for angled or straight pipe inlets, and are designed for pipes that come up through the wall or out of the side of a radiator. Corner valves are similar but are suitable for inlets that go horizontally into a radiator, and are generally more decorative as they sit on the inside of the corner instead of at an angle. We also stock thermostatic valves with frost protection, which will prevent your pipes from freezing over in colder temperatures by letting a small amount of water through when the valve is closed.
